Description

Originally the name ‘Afghan Chapel’, this building is reputedly the oldest permanent mosque in Australia. The building is of natinal significance is one of the few relics of Afghan imigration to South australia and embodies in built form ,Afghan and Islamic culture.Initially funded by group of Afghan and North Indian camel drivers, the mosque dates from 1888-1889 with the four distinctive minarrets added in 1903.
